A practical directory of the community initiatives linked to Dato’ Seri Ivan Teh and Fusionex: what each one set out to do, who led it on the ground and where it was reported.
How to read this directory
Each entry follows the same pattern. It describes the need, names the lead partner, explains what Fusionex contributed and gives a date where one was published. Entries with no published date are kept, but their timing is not guessed. Sources are listed at the end of the page so readers can check the detail.
1. Mobile wellness outreach
Lead partner: Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja. Contribution: main partner and sponsor; RM50,000 to the 3H Health Awareness Campaign, reported in March 2019.
The club’s president launched the programme by pointing to national survey data showing that 17.5 per cent of Malaysian adults had diabetes and that around 9.6 million people lived with high blood pressure or high cholesterol, often without knowing it. The response was a van that would travel to schools, colleges, malls and community centres from November of its launch year, pairing awareness talks with free medical tests. A January art competition was planned for students, and seven sister clubs were to take the model abroad the following March.
2. Teachers and digital skills
Lead partner: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation. Contribution: hosting the session at the Fusionex headquarters.
Teachers from across Malaysia gathered at the company’s offices for a session on digital skills. The value of a format like this lies in multiplication. Technology changes faster than syllabuses can be rewritten, and teachers who see a working technology business up close are better placed to explain the field to the students in front of them for years afterwards.
3. Data skills for future health workers
Lead partner: IMU. Contribution: access to the Fusionex analytics platform, module content, and later a seat on a programme board.
IMU and Fusionex agreed that five degree programmes in medicine and the health sciences would each pilot a big data analytics module. The modules were to cover the analytics life cycle, how analytics contributes to healthcare, why data driven decisions matter and how to apply analytical and AI skills to clinical problems. The agreement was exchanged at a Healthcare Big Data Analytics Forum on the IMU campus in Bukit Jalil, organised jointly with MDEC. In 2020, Dato’ Seri Ivan Teh joined the Board of Studies for the Bachelor’s in Digital Health, a programme preparing students to design tools such as clinical decision aids and hospital information systems.
4. A trade platform for Malaysian exporters
Lead partner: MATRADE. Contribution: technology partner for the MATRADE Digital Trade Platform, launched in 2023.
Small and medium enterprises often struggle with the cost of reaching overseas buyers. The platform offers a central gateway with business matching, virtual and hybrid events, and links to a trade facilitation hub designed to simplify procedures and reduce costs. MATRADE presented it as part of its mission to bring Malaysian businesses to the world.
5. Meals, relief and children’s homes
Lead partners: Masala Wheels, MYDIN Malaysia, Rumah Charis and the Assunta Children Society.
In April 2020, Fusionex sponsored meals in the Food Without Borders campaign, cooked by Masala Wheels and delivered by its volunteers. After floods in Penang, the company provided food, mattresses and medical supplies with logistical help from MYDIN. In July 2017, staff spent time with the children at Rumah Charis, and in June 2020 Fusionex gave RM10,000 so the Assunta Children Society could upgrade the computers its day care children needed for online lessons. Run by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, that centre looked after 47 children between the ages of 4 and 14.
6. The ACE staff programme
Lead partner: the Fusionex staff recreational club, jointly with management.
ACE stands for athletics, community and environment. Giving each pillar a name creates a home for ideas from employees, from a sports day to a neighbourhood clean up, and keeps community activity from depending on a single champion. The company was also part of a charity art show, Dreams Come True, held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
7. A national big data network
Lead partner: MDEC. Contribution: an industry led Centre of Excellence, agreed by memorandum in January 2015.
Fusionex signed at the launch of the National Big Data Analytics Innovation Network, alongside a second industry centre agreed with Teradata and a third memorandum involving MAMPU and MIMOS. The network was presented as a step towards making Malaysia the ASEAN hub for big data analytics, with the goal of growing skills and adoption in every sector of the economy rather than inside a single firm. For community builders, that matters because shared infrastructure outlasts any one project.
